The taste test

Thursday 7th August 2008 by Steve Mayne

Mother Hen here… Just thought I’d add my experience of ‘the first taste’ from the eagerly awaited first eggs.

I too tried a fried fresh egg alongside a Tesco Free Range egg. Once cracked opened in the pan, the Tesco egg was large, flat and very orange. In comparison, the fresh egg was a pale yellow with a ‘springy’ white that made the yolk ‘sit’ half a centimetre off the pan. Although smaller than Tesco, it was only Betty’s 2nd egg.

I tried both eggs and was genuinely surprised how different the fresh egg tasted to a Tesco egg. The Tesco egg was bland and needed extra salt. On the other hand, Betty’s finest was tasty; as though it had already been seasoned. It left me wanting more…
