Run Away – Part 1

Thursday 4th September 2008 by Steve Mayne

Spread the love

Well it’s all well and good having one chicken run … but what if we need to segregate a chook due to ill health or introduce new chooks to the flock? What about lawn-weed eating duty?

This calls for a plan.

A plan involves writing down … paper … a pencil … maybe even a measuring tape! What has the world come to?

So we order some weldmesh.

And get some wood.

‘X’ marks the spot … on in this case more of a line than a more treasure related symbol.

The first cut is made … no going back now!

Oh – I need big screws for this …. 90 mm (9 cm’s for those who are more used to cm’s) and lets make them pre-waxed! I love an Easy Drive Screw!

It must be serious … if a right-angle measuring thingy is involved!

Moving to outside … less mess.

I saw this.

And got lazy and used my jigsaw instead.

First prototype … laid against the weldmesh.

Weldmesh hurts hands … call in protection!

First panel complete. All fingers accounted for and still attached.

Using staples to hold it all in place, might need to replace with bigger ones though.

I Don’t Believe he’s actually using the 90 degree rule thingy!

Chickens are an Appreciative Audience.

Two of the weldmesh panels complete.

Oh dear … technology to the rescue … courtesy of Howard, how big should the next bit be? Are you sure Howard?

Prototype for the measuring the side-bars … looks good, well done Howard!

All the side-bars cut.

Watching others work is tough as the chooks have exhausted their popcorn supply … time to break off and refuel the busy little monkeys.

To be continued … when the weather allows!
