Feeding Chooks and Flubenvet

Monday 20th October 2008 by Steve Mayne

Now to dose correctly with Flubenvet … the Chicken should eat just medicated food for 7 days. That’s a week in metric.

The question is – how much food should I prepare for my Chickens so that none of the food, or Flubenvet goes to waste? Medicated food left over after the week should be disposed of. To continue to feed the medicated food would exceed the recommended amount of Flubenvet per chicken. I’m sure their heads won’t drop off but it’s probably not a good idea.

The average that I have heard, is to allow for 0.125 kg of feed per chicken per day. This is for healthy chooks that are adults and are, or were laying.

So if you have 1 Chicken x 0.125 kg x 7 days = so prepare at least 0.875 kg of food.

Now multiply the 0.875 kg by the number of chooks you’ll worm and that is a rough indication of how much feed you’ll need.

Based on that, I believe I’ll get through 7 kg of feed for each set of worming, this does sound about right as I do replace the food every three days or so.
