The Builder is due to remove the shutting tomorrow (Saturday) and then we’ll have the delicate task of somehow relocating the Cube + Run onto the Concrete. I believe I’ll have to split the contraption into at least two parts to get it onto the new base – I’m hopefull but I’m sure it’ll take longer than I have planned.
The chooks have destroyed a couple of areas of grass since we moved them off the patio area. I’m sure that they’ll grow back but it’s not as if I can let the kids crawl about on those areas – and they are just screaming to be allowed to play out in the garden.
I’ve been looking into using an alternative base to woodchip for the chickens – it’s suggested that recycled car tyres which and sliced into a ‘woodchip’ sized pellet would work well. I’m not sure it’s such a good idea as the chooks will scratch around and kick loads of it out – to then be diced by the lawnmower.
As part of a partial-self-sufficiency project – we will post more details on our vegetable and herb endeavours in the next couple of days.
