Freecycle & Deck this out

Wednesday 17th June 2009 by Steve Mayne

The new French uPVC doors are in … and the old Aluminium Patio doors went off to someone on Freecycle. Quite amusing to see them trundle off on the roof rack of a Ford Fiesta.

That was the first time I’ve tried Freecycle – seems to be quite painless, and got rid of a couple of other bits that were no longer needed. Bit disappointed as one person picked up a table and chairs for her sprogs and didn’t bother to email a thanks. How rude.

The Decked area is complete, and I put in some LED Lights from Wickes around the perimiter. I am very impressed with the transformer that came with the lights – it uses just 7 Watts of power to run the 16 lights. I have a some other transformers that use more power than that when not plugged in to anything. I’ve put the lights on a timed switch to lessen the chance of forgetting to turn the plug on and breaking my neck when checking the chooks at night.

Okay it’s a little bit wasteful – but it’s a fraction of a penny per week, about 20 pence of electricity per year with the current timing.
