The Plot for Vegtables

Wednesday 22nd July 2009 by Steve Mayne

How sweet – I think these two carrots are in love … well they were till we diced and steamed them …

We replanted the herbs to this smaller tub which now commands a sunnier position – we find we don’t use the herbs that much but will make a bigger effort next year

A small selection of Spring Onions

Lettuce is still a big winner – more than we can eat. French, Runner Beans are tasty as usual.

And I pulled out some spuds from the sacks on the weekend just gone – I’ve never tasted potatoes that have been so great to eat.

I’d say that Lettuce and Beans save money, and taste just like in the supermarket.

Potatoes – they are cheap from the supermarket but wow — the taste of spuds you have grown yourself is amazing.

Have got some Cucumbers on the go, as well as tomatoes that are doing very well.

The Sunflowers have turned into triffids – and we are wondering if we can harvest the seeds from them.

Have got some Iceburg on the go too – so we’ll see how this turns out compared to the ‘Salad Leaves’ we’ve been eating so far.

    'Hi' from another chicken keeper!

Cuddling carrots hey! We've branched out and now are growing – sweetcorn, courgettes, carrots, beetroot, dwarf french beans, mange toit, runner beans, brussel sprouts and potatoes and tomatoes, peppers, chilli pepper, cucumber and melon. Loving it!

We have five hens – Dolly, Dotty, Sybil, Lettuce and Gracie. Plan to get a couple more soon, due to egg demand from neighbours and work colleagues!
