Central Heating Tuneup

Monday 21st September 2009 by Steve Mayne

Spread the love

Well it’s going to be time to pop the Central Heating back on in the coming months, and our plan to reduce energy useage is slowly coming together.

So far this year we have completed,

  • Fitted a new uPVC Double Glazed French Doors with Solar Reflective Glass
  • Had thick ~30cm insulation fitted in the loft
  • Had a boiler tune-up and service

We already have Cavity Wall insulation.

Final piece in the puzzle for this year is to have all the TRV’s on the radiators replaced with ones that actually work. This should distibute the heat more evenly, stop the cloakroom from becoming a sauna, and keep the living areas at a better temperature, plus get away from seized valves which are very annoying.

It’ll be interesting to see how this years Gas usage compares against last years. We have monthly charts available, if there’s a large difference I’ll post the percentage change – though of course this difference is also influenced by the outside temperate which I cannot measure in the same way.
