New Ladies

Sunday 30th January 2011 by Steve Mayne

On Saturday we went to get our new ladies from SPR.

It was quite interesting to get 11 Chickens and 5 humans into a small family car but we managed!

We ringed each chicken, and my wife is working on the names.  One is already named ‘Bubble’ on account that she makes chicken-noises that sound like ‘bubble-bubble’ and another is called Grace as she is a inquisitive and gentle chicken.

We are using the Omlet Super-Glugs for water that hook onto a piece of shiplap cladding, and bought a larger feeder that takes approx 20 kg of dry feed.  Kitchen scraps will be presented in the Omlet Grubs that hook onto a metal strip.

One change for us is that we are using dry Mash instead of Pellets.

There has been no fighting amongst the chickens – perhaps because they all pretty much look the same.  Most of them are crouching already, and I would say that these chickens are very mild in their manner – although it may be partially due to me being more confident in handling them.
