Update on our post from yesterday of our poorly chicken. This morning I went into the garage to check on our egg bound chicken, and after removing the blanket that was placed over her during the night to keep her warm – we found that indeed nature had taken it’s course – and in the dog crate was the chicken, a broken egg shell, and a whole egg (um, and some poo). So the second egg in her vent pushed through the broken egg – and we no longer have a poorly hunched up chook.
Her vent it still a little drippy – which isn’t too surprising, but we felt it best to place her back with her ‘friends’ before she was missed. Keeping an eye on her during the day, she spent a lot of the time avoiding the rest of the chooks – either by resting in the coop, or finding a quiet corner of the run. She’s standing on one leg some of the time which points towards a potential calcium deficiency – so on topping up the food today we added extra Chicken Supplements to the feed.
So – not out of the woods yet … to go 12 months with this being the first incident is still rather impressive.
