It’s been half-term this week and for once we have been blessed with dry weather. Cold, but at least it’s dry!
In between the children playing in the garden for the first time this year, I have managed to dig-over, weed and tidy-up our 5 raised beds.
The ground was fairly soft and there were minimal weeds. It was a good opportunity for a bit of exercise as digging can be back-breaking work!
I should have dug them over between October and December to let the worst of the winter weather get to the soil, but mid February is better than nothing! I’m sure we’ve still got a few frosts and cold days yet to go.
My raspberry canes all sadly died last year (probably due to all that rain!) so I pulled the remainder of their rotting stumps out and had a good dig at the soil. Hopefully this year I’ll be able to replace them.
My rhubarb plant however, is shooting again. It’s nice to see the first shoots of spring. Let’s hope we’ll have some warm and dry weather this year.
