Yesterday my wife and I had a few hours without the children so we visited a few local pubs including The Woodpecker in Waterlooville.
Located between Cowplain and Waterlooville on the A3, The WoodPecker Waterlooville has is disabled access ramps and the pub has a large car park. If you are looking for directions the pub is located on Google Maps.
Beer was good (I had a couple of pints of Doombar) and my wife shared a good quality house white which was reasonably priced at £10 a bottle.
The pub is has a nice atmosphere and was warm. The two pubs we visited prior to The Woodpecker were chilly (yes it is August…).
The pub has recently undergone extensive internal and external renovation and is a world apart from the pub in 2012. Additionally the clientèle has had a clean-up and the less savoury elements have been moved on.
Catering mostly for the 30+ demographic with a busy timetable of events and specially themed nights, the pub is also popular with younger and older people. A children’s menu is also available.
The Woodpecker does not have a website so I can’t link to their menu or other pub details. I can tell you that the menu comprises of well chosen popular pub food as well as a specials board which changes on a daily basis. Additionally the pub hosts all you can eat Curry Nights and a Carvery on a Sunday.
The landlady updates the Woodpecker’s Facebook Page regularly is a case-study of social media “Done Right”.
During our visit we scoffed a couple of sharing platters – they were delicious.
Don’t be put off by the exterior look of the pub – the food is great, the interior welcoming, the beer spot on, the landlady is fantastic – the staff will look after you very well.
I returned a few weeks later with one of my friends and I had the “Dingley Dell Burger” – a pork burger with all the trimmings. It was delicious!
