C25K – Starting again after Plantar Fasciitis Injury

Tuesday 10th September 2013 by Amanda Mayne Leave a Comment

In May I started the C25k running programme and progressed to W8R3 (week 8, run 3) without problem. W9R1 was stopped abruptly due to a very sharp and uncomfortable pain in my heel; I had developed Plantar Fasciitis. (See my previous post here to how I recovered).

I have invested in some properly fitted running shoes from the much recommended Alexandra Sports in Portsmouth. The highly trained staff took an hour to find the perfect shoes using a mixture of techniques including:

  • Looking at and feeling my feet and legs
  • Watching my run in bare feet
  • Biochemical assessment using video gait analysis which studied my pronation using a treadmill
  • Trying lots of different type of shoes and testing them with a run. Sometimes I wore one of one pair of shoes and one of the other!

These are the shoes I settled on.

It is now September, my foot is better and I’ve got some great equipment…I am now ready to start the process all over again. It’s frustrating that I have to start from the beginning when I reached week 8, but my doctor recommended I take it slowly and my fitness has certainly diminished. However, I know that the plan works.

So, I will track my progress here and hopefully I’ll graduate the programme in 9 weeks time. Watch this space!
