For those not familiar with the C25K running plan, it’s a programme designed for people who are absolute beginners get into running. A quick Google will bring up loads of websites dedicated to what is an essentially a 9 week plan from no running to running for half-an-hour / 5 kilometres. Even the NHS recommend it. There are a multitude of apps and podcasts that you can listen to while doing your run.
I’m starting the C25K again after initially starting at the end of May and progressing all the way to week 8, run 3. Injury struck and now, as it’s been at least 8 weeks since I last ran I have started at the beginning again.
The first run went well, and despite feeling nervous that my foot would be sore, I completed it! I rather enjoyed it and for the first time I ran in the evening after having previously got up at 5am for each run.
I also ran in the evening for the 2nd run, which to my surprise I found fairly tough. I thought that maybe as I’d taken part in the programme before that I’d find it easy; obviously my fitness levels had diminished considerably. Having said that, I completed it (the the rain!) and felt a sense of satisfaction at least.
On Friday I set my alarm for 5am and set off. Disappointingly, I found this run *really* hard. I’m not sure if it had much to do with the fact that the previous day I was very busy and I also had a night of broken sleep, but I was glad to finish! But finish it I did and that’s the intention. I’m going to spare my body and have a two day rest before I start week 2.
