I hate ironing. There I’ve said it. Ironing really is a boring and tedious job, so when my husband suggested buying the Tefal Steam Iron, I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry (or hit him ’round the head with it!)
I freely admit to ironing the least amount of clothes as possible. I usually just fold from the line or tumble and put away. However, there are just some things that need an iron. School uniform being one of them and bedding. There are people out there who would venomously disagree with me, but that’s how I like it and there is nothing better than getting in a freshly laundered and ironed bed!
So, back to my husband ordering the Tefal Easy Press Steam Generator iron. It duly arrived, I reluctantly read the instructions and used it on my weekly ironing session. Well, what can I say? As irons go, I was suitably impressed.
The iron sits on a base – this is the Steam Generator, this is where you pour 1 litre of tap water into. After plugging it in, you have to wait 8 minutes for the water to heat up. This is an ideal amount of time (for me) to set up the ironing board, sort through the clothes, put the telly or radio on ready for the session. Once the iron is ready, you start ironing like usual. There is a button in the handle to press which generates the all-important jet of steam on the garment and wow-weee it irons beautifully! It seems to glide across the fabric quickly and efficiently at the same time as pressing the steam button. It’s like having a ‘booster’ button for my iron. This iron has knocked 10 minutes off my usual 40 minute ironing session – that’s an impressive 25% improvement on my ironing speed.
This steam generator iron will allow me to press my clothing and bedding for 1 and a half hours. The cords fit nicely in a storage area on the Steam Generator base.
I still have my original iron; for those times when something needs to be ironed NOW. Thankfully, those emergencies are few and far between in the Mayne house.
Ironing is still a chore, but it’s now a quicker chore!
