Traa-La-Laa! Captain Underpants Birthday Cake

Saturday 21st June 2014 by Amanda Mayne Leave a Comment

By the time Ashley, my eldest’s 7th birthday came around I was confident I could do the Moshi Monsters cake he wanted…but…uh-oh Moshi Monsters had temporarily fallen out of favour to be replaced by Captain Underpants! Captain Underpants, for those of you not in the know, is the star of the a book series written by Dav Pilkey which really does appeal to 6,7 and 8 year old humour.

My son had gone Captain Underpants crazy! There was only one thing for it…and Moshi Monster’s cake would never do!

I actually really enjoyed making this cake as it really was quite a challenge; this time it really had to *look* like Captain Underpants – the pressure was on!

I bought a sugar art pen from ebay in order to ‘draw’ Captain Underpants on the cake.

I used several different coloured fondants which were similar to the book colours. I copied a picture of the aforementioned Mr Underpants and using Google/Pinterest I managed to ‘draw’ and make an ‘ok’ picture. Not incredibly neat, but then I am certainly not an artist!

I was really pleased how this turned out as it could have gone horribly wrong and had a flying fat man on a cake instead to a flying Captain Underpants! Ashley loved it!
