I have got to the stage where I am really enjoying making my sons’ a special and personal birthday cake. Last year, with Steve’s birthday, not long after Francis’ I was keen to hone my new skills. Steve likes all things sci-fi so I have a plethora ideas to choose from. Once again, Pinterest was my starting point. I was tempted to do a Star Wars theme, but consequently settled on Star Trek as I had some Star Trek figures in the loft I could use.
I was tempted to make a cake in the shape of ‘The Enterprise’, but perhaps that was being a little too ambitious…perhaps next year? I thought I’d consolidate my skills and make a cake that was fun to do.
Quite a simple design with black fondant icing to cover the cake. I then made a template of the Star Trek logo. I then dotted the remaining cake with different sized stars and balls. I finished off with Steve’s name at the bottom (in case there was any confusion!) and placed the figures around the edge (picked up in a reduced bin a couple of years ago.)
