Goddess Nike has arrived in Horndean!

Thursday 10th July 2014 by Amanda Mayne

She’s arrived! The stunning and beautiful new Goddess Nike has returned to Horndean.

The Memorial has been restored to its former glory after 50 years absence and a freak car accident that destroyed it in 1964. For 50 years, the memorial has been topped with a lamp donated by the brewery Gales. It was a kind gesture, but the lamp really didn’t do Horndean’s memorial to fallen servicemen/women any justice. Nike had to come back! Cllr Shillemore and Cllr Evans lead the project on behalf of Horndean Parish Council to raise the funds needed so that Nike was reinstated.

On Wednesday 9th July 2014 she was delivered and craned into position. It really is an amazing statute and beautifully crafted; go and see this fabulous new statue today!

There will be a re-dedication ceremony on Sunday 20th July in Horndean square at 2pm.

We at  The Mayne Design were honoured to take part in Horndean’s history by building the Horndean Village War Memorial Restoration website for Horndean Parish Council.
