Driving past Waterlooville today, I noticed the new Sainsbury’s supermarket’s steel frame construction has commenced. It looked quite dramatic – I had to stop and take a quick picture!
It’s quite an impressive size already – from what we understand it’s architecture is a little like Tesco, Havant. It’ll be a split level building, with the superstore on the first floor and car parking underneath.
At the other end of the car park, there is also construction work occurring. Sainsbury’s is installing a pedestrian ramp to and from the retail park to improve accessibility – especially as the current subway is inaccessible to people in wheelchairs.
I wonder what will happen to the existing subway? Although not the prettiest of Waterlooville’s features, it does have some striking artwork running through showing Waterlooville’s 200 year history; it would be a shame for that to be demolished.
