A reader of About Waterlooville (a Facebook group we set up to provide news about Waterlooville) drew our attention to the demise of yet another shop that has closed in the small precinct Wellington Way. The shop formerly housed Ross Records, before Mr Ross sold up and continued to concentrate on his Kingston Road store. Discz has been trading for around 10 years. Although, I had not been a customer, I believe it sold and traded in second-hand games, music and films.
According to it’s Facebook group, Discz actually folded around the beginning of June and cited that the former owner wanted “to do something different” and that he hadn’t gone “bust” – it’s “just time for a change.” Whatever the reason, that’s three shops closed in Wellington Way (Model Shop and Rainbow Toys) in as many weeks.
Is it just a coincidence or are rates just too exorbitant? Or is there another reason? Businesses don’t really like to admit they’ve gone into liquidation and usually indicate other reasons. I’m not sure Waterlooville can sustain any more charity shops…
I think Wellington Way could do with a revamp. It’s a sorry site and no wonder the centre of town could shift with the new building plans on the BAE site!
Waterlooville town centre has always been a bit run down and not very inviting. I usually opt to go to Petersfield.
