Go-ahead Given For Waterlooville Leisure Centre’s New Extension

As we reported back in June about the proposed extension for Waterlooville Swimming Pool, we can now confirm that the first phase has been agreed and work is expected to start imminently.

The press release has provided this artist’s impression of the proposed new building. It’s a two-storey extension, where the first floor will house the extended gym and exercise studio. Below, will be the much desired indoor children’s play area with it’s own reception area, three party rooms and wash-rooms.

In the main foyer of the Leisure centre, a new café will complement the new extension and a new kitchen will also be installed to complete the refurbishment.

With expected visitor numbers to increase, the contract will also provide further car parking spaces.

The facility is expected to be opened by summer 2015.

Shame there isn’t going to be any extensions for the pool, an extra 3 lanes for training, lessons people who want to swim etc, they’ve just built a new gym at Havant and we’re getting another gym on the bae site. It seems the ever expanding area thinks the swimming pools are big enough but not enough gyms! I really hate swimming at waterlooville now and if prices go up I’ll just have to reconsider going.

Rather than imminently work has already started with ground clearance commencing last week. Will be good to have an upgraded facility.

I definitely agree with Tracey’s comment about what a great shame it is that there is not going to be a crèche facility like at their Havant site, as it is so busy, I cannot get my son in at suitable times for me, even ringing by 7am the week before I want to get him in!! And am frequently told I have to ring in at 6am when then open to get a morning slot!!! Which would mean having to set an alarm just to get a crèche space, madness!! I am currently looking at other gym facilities as this has really annoyed me as it was a big reason I joined this gym & means I cannot use it anywhere near as much as I would like to as I have no one to look after my 2 yr old son!! Please could a crèche facility not be considered at this new site as it would really help to ease the burden & appeal to us mums in the area.

i agree with paul robinson-the pool should be made bigger or slides, diving board etc added-will the price go up because of a childrens area?

Excellent news. Prices didn’t increase at Havant when that was extended.

Still won’t go there as the last time I went I was informed I should bring my own padlock! What numpty dreamt up that ridiculous idea and what the hell is wrong with a pound coin that most people have on them for lockers.
