O Sole Mio Cowplain – Closed down? Refurbished? Re-branded?

Sunday 3rd August 2014 by Amanda Mayne

Popping up to Lidl’s this morning I noticed a the windows of the Italian Restaurant O Sole Mio covered in brown paper with a sign saying “opening soon”. I’m not sure how long O Sole Mio has been closed, but unfortunately the signs do not say any more regarding the future of this Italian restaurant.

A search online for O Sole Mio to see if their website has any further information, and is interesting in so much as how much it doesn’t show. The website proudly proclaims they have one restaurant in Port Solent: there is no mention of their other branch in Cowplain.

So, what has happened to O Sole Mio, a mainstay of Cowplain centre for many years? Has it closed? Is it simply being refurbished? Is someone else taking over the lease? Will there be another restaurant? Do you know what has happened/happening to this Italian eatery?

My father has sold it to his business partner and will hopefully be reopening in the next two weeks. There has been a problem finding new staff that’s why we haven’t been able to re open as yet. The restaurant will be named sorrento xx

We’ve only visited O Sole Mio in Cowplain the once. It was a long time ago – we were well looked after by the staff and the food was fab. Wine was spot on too. We had to go early in the evening as at the time we had very young children so it was a little quiet. Thought it looked fab inside when we visited.

Seems to be difficult finding restaurant staff in Cowplain, I see the Red Lounge a few doors down is also advertising for staff

Waked by this morning, brown paper removed and full new name & signage up

Here’s the new name and signage reported by Mike. Called “Sorrento” the new company was set up 08 May 2014 under the company name “Sorrento Restaurant G&V Limited”. I can’t find a website for the restaurant – no doubt one will be forthcoming in the future. The telephone number is the same as ‘O Sole Mio’. I don’t have any photos of the inside.

Walked past again this morning [Wednesday] and noted that one window has had the picture of, I assume, Sorrento, removed and one can actually peer through the clear window to look inside, it looked very nice to me
