Do you like what we are doing for Waterlooville and the surrounding area? Do you find it interesting?
Waterlooville’s town centre is dying and there are hundreds of you out there with small businesses that need some kind of platform with which to be heard.
Also people like to know what is happening in their community.
We’ve reached out to a number of local organisations including Havant Borough Council, The Waterlooville Forum & the Waterlooville Business Association. Responses have been mixed:
- Havant Borough Council were superb and responded to our initial query in March this year.
- The Waterlooville Forum have responded.
- Despite a follow-up, we are yet to hear back from the Waterlooville Business Association.
Have you got any suggestions on what you would like to see from us in the future?
whats happening to waterlooville is what they did to havant they built out side the town and people didnt need to use it any more so no trade shops closed village died
We have a small antique shop in Winchester, but live in Waterlooville. They are doing the same in Winchester, building a huge shopping centre at one end of town. If you want choice in small towns, use the small shops.
but if you can get every thing in one place you dont need to go any where else so you save time
dont get me wrong the new sainsburys will bring jobs that are needed and i my self am applying for one there but other than banking people wont nee to come in to waterlooville
I really enjoy reading your updates about what’s going on around Waterlooville. I would like to know more about the small businesses around the Waterlooville/ Horndean area. I find that, unless you spot certain shops as you’re driving about, you would never know they were there. Living in Purbrook, I very rarely venture much further north than Tempest and I always hear about a new sweet shop in Cowplain or a new cafe in Horndean but I can never find the damn thing. There is nothing wrong with us gaining a new grocery giant, it will certainly bring more people to the area who will, no doubt, end up in our humble little town centre at some point. It will definitely save me having to drive to Farlington. The only losers I predict will be Asda and possibly Morrisons, not the small businesses.
Hi Cathy, thank you for your thoughts on our blog and your kind words.
Waterlooville/Horndean we can do!
Sadly the new Sweetshop in Cowplain closed a while back … and is now a hairdressers.
The ‘new’ Cafe in Horndean … well where to start? I know a few opened, closed, and at least one store diversified to have cafe, then shelved the idea. Certainly the bakery in Horndean (near to Horndean Square) is brilliant and well worth that special visit – the cakes are to die for. Nom nom nom.
We suspect that the Waitrose in Duke’s Walk will be impacted by the new Sainbury’s, Waitrose is never that busy and it’s our shop of choice if we just have a few items to get and want to be in and out quickly.
