If the closure of the Phones4U store today wasn’t enough … Waterlooville Precinct including The Boulevard is without electricity.
Waterlooville has just had new electrical lines installed following months of disruption to the precinct.
Poundland, Costa and many other stores had to close their doors.
Some others tried to remain open – totting up the bill by hand then and then writing manual receipts.
A few shops were prepared and had alternative ways of powering their lights …
Trading is difficult enough – but to continue to do so without electricity as well?

Statement from Southern Electric Power Distribution
We contacted Southern Electric and they supplied the following statement,
A fault occurred on our high voltage network serving the Waterlooville area at 11:43am this morning, following third part damage to an underground cable circuit.
Our engineers attended and were able quickly to isolate the affected cable and re-route power through other parts of the network in order to restore supplies to affected customers in stages.
Just under 600 customers were off supply at 12noon, which fell to fewer than 175 customers by 2pm and 4 remaining customers close to the location of the damage by 2:50pm. Mobile generation was used to restore power to the final 4 customers at 4:24pm. Engineers will now be working in the area to carry out permanent repairs.
We would like to apologise to our customers for the loss of supply and thank them for their patience while our engineers worked to restore power as quickly as possible.
