Keys News Highfield vs. Premier Stores Highfield

Thursday 13th November 2014 by Steve Mayne

We are able to report that the Premier Stores in Highfield … has closed!

It opened last year in direct competition with Keys News of Highfield.

Nick and his team have run Keys News Highfield for 11 years and are very community led – organising trips, events, and days out and supporting local causes.

Highfield Shops

It seems that The Premier Store has been boycotted by local residents in preference for Keys News Highfield.

Well done people-power.

Well done Nick Keys and team.

Although, I do feel sorry for the person that invested a load of cash to set up this franchise, but I’m not sorry that it’s closed!

Next time Premier Stores – pick on someone your own size!

I tried this store but the non English speaking gentleman seemed to think warm wine from the cold section was ok and pointed out his wine fridge was fine at 20 deg C ….only time I shopped there.

Wish people would do the same to tesco in the old green dragon pub in lovedean lane. But thankfully we have not lost cost cutter Milton rd or lindos in Frogmore lane.

It’s never great news to hear a business closes…however i was really sad when this one opened. My parents live near here and we have used this newsagents for many many years – in fact this is where I walked to spend my pocket money on a weekly basis. Keys shows an amazing community focus and pushes the boundaries of a traditional newsagent. If you’ve ever been to the Christmas Carol evening or been on one of the organised trips you’ll know what I mean. So glad that common sense came through and the Local residents voted with their feet and their pennies!!

I used to go to Keys when they were in Cosham! His mum and dad were just fantastic, we were gutted when they closed and moved up, however so lovely to know that they are still doing well and yes they organise a hell of a lot for the community.
