We are able to report that the Premier Stores in Highfield … has closed!
It opened last year in direct competition with Keys News of Highfield.
Nick and his team have run Keys News Highfield for 11 years and are very community led – organising trips, events, and days out and supporting local causes.
It seems that The Premier Store has been boycotted by local residents in preference for Keys News Highfield.
Well done people-power.
Well done Nick Keys and team.
Although, I do feel sorry for the person that invested a load of cash to set up this franchise, but I’m not sorry that it’s closed!
Next time Premier Stores – pick on someone your own size!

Fantastic! My grandma would be pleased!
I tried this store but the non English speaking gentleman seemed to think warm wine from the cold section was ok and pointed out his wine fridge was fine at 20 deg C ….only time I shopped there.
Wish people would do the same to tesco in the old green dragon pub in lovedean lane. But thankfully we have not lost cost cutter Milton rd or lindos in Frogmore lane.
Karen Houghton. Happy days x
It’s never great news to hear a business closes…however i was really sad when this one opened. My parents live near here and we have used this newsagents for many many years – in fact this is where I walked to spend my pocket money on a weekly basis. Keys shows an amazing community focus and pushes the boundaries of a traditional newsagent. If you’ve ever been to the Christmas Carol evening or been on one of the organised trips you’ll know what I mean. So glad that common sense came through and the Local residents voted with their feet and their pennies!!

Thought you’d like the article glad the chain store has shut down and the small local friendly shop has stayed :-) xx
Anyone else dreading an empty, damp unit sitting there for months/years on end though?

Hahah yeah I know it closed a couple of weeks ago :) mission accomplished!! Xx
Indeed, the keys is brilliant, and nik is so goodcondotion he caters for everything and everyone and always makes a effort for all special events, he’s a proper community man ;) and all the staff are lowly there, we couldn’t cope without that little shop it’s awsome :) x x
it was a bit of an eyesore! All that yellow and purple! Yuck! ð
You did it Karen Bundy
so pleased for Keys.
Good to know it’s closed trying to stomp down a local business, well they lost big time!, it looked trashy on the parade too, high field is a lovely road, keys newsagents all the way ððð
Nick and his team are great. We really miss them now we’ve moved away. Keep up the good work!
I remember going into that newsagents and what I could make out from what he was saying was he had no idea how to use card machine so I should go somewhere else. Fantastic customer service ……not
I used to go to Keys when they were in Cosham! His mum and dad were just fantastic, we were gutted when they closed and moved up, however so lovely to know that they are still doing well and yes they organise a hell of a lot for the community.

Excellent. Over priced and not the familiar faces we are all used to. The keys family deserve better. They got it!! Well done keys in high field xx

Big admirer of your business Nick it wasn’t really a fair competition to be honest, well done
Premier Shops are independently owned businesses….. Its Just Sells The Deals From Bookers Cash’n’Carry .”.As I/we as a Family Run a Premier Shop in Pompey”….Its All About Customer Service….And Keys News Looks After There Customers
Great news just need the same for every other small business in and around Waterlooville.
I knew Nick’s Dad when he set up Keys newsagents in Drayon. His Dad went to school with my Mum!! Glad to hear a story of the local man winning against a bigger company ð
Keys are very community minded.
Love Keys newsagents – Nick all the way!!!
