Just when you though you had the Waterlooville car-parking system all figured out … we have some more news for you.
Let me ask you a question; Do you think the retail car park where Matalan, Argos, Home Bargains etc is, is free for 3 hours for precinct shoppers?
We’ve had countless comments on the blog and messages sent to us to say it is free. We’ve also had contact from a Havant Borough Councillor to say it’s free.
You’re all wrong.
The Car Park in question is managed by Euro Car Parks; Euro Car Parks have a warden on site, so lets take a look at the signs that are liberally dotted around the retail park:
It is very clear, it says, “Customer Only Car Park”.
Again, we had numerous comments with people insisting “they’ve asked the Patrol Man/Warden” and that he has verbally said, “you can park here and use the town“.
So we got in touch with Euro Car Parks directly to ask them the same question; Euro Car Parks say that ONLY customers of the retail park may use the car park. Here is their email response:
So you may say, well the warden doesn’t give out fines! Well tell that to “DH” who ended up with a ticket:
I parked in Matalan, walked up to the dentist, did some shopping bits and met a friend for coffee, I came back to a ticket. I tried to fight it at the time but was told to “read the signs”, and after paying for the dentist it was a very expensive day!” – DH
If you want to shop in Waterlooville precinct – you’re taking a gamble if you park in the Matalan/Argos car park and don’t use the shops that surround it. Admittedly, I’ve made this mistake in the past and now I know the consequences it isn’t worth the risk. We’ve all seen the patrol man with his electronic ‘gizmo’ wandering around the car park punching number plate details in. All we can say is that you have been warned!
Have you received a ticket/PCN parking in the Argos/Matalan car park?
