My husband Steve was bequeathed an oil painting by his late Nan in the early 2000’s. It’s like most family heirlooms, not really worth anything in monetary value but irreplaceable to the Mayne family. Unfortunately it had an ugly 1960s frame which really didn’t do the artwork justice. So, after tolerating the hessian frame on wall for more years than we wanted, we got round to re-framing the painting.
Shear Art Picture Framing are a bespoke picture framing business and we asked them to give our cherished canvas some much needed TLC.
Shear Art Picture Framing is Neil Shearer & Suzie Bucknole, who together have over 30 years combined experience in the picture framing trade. After working for others decided to start their own Picture Framing business 3 years ago at a cost of just £40 for a art & craft stall and they haven’t looked back since.
So we booked at appointment and took my husband’s picture up to Shear Art Picture Framing’s workshop in Lovedean.
Neil and Suzie were welcoming, friendly and professional and we never felt like we were being rushed. We chatted for ages and they told us all about their business and professional careers. As they are both artists, their eye for detail and choosing the right frame was flawless.
We were given choices of colours, frame sizes and they worked within our budget. The have hundreds of frames and glass options to choose from – more than I ever imagined. You can truly get a unique frame for your treasures. After much deliberation and lots of sound advice, a frame was chosen and we left Steve’s picture (and the hessian frame) with Neil and Suzie.
We asked Neil to take a few photographs of the process so that we could show you, and our relatives how the picture is transformed. A few days later we had a call from Neil to say the re-framed painting was ready for collection. To say we were happy would be an understatement. The frame has simply transformed the oil into the heirloom that Steve can finally appreciate. The frame suggested by Shear Art Picture Framing has highlighted areas of the painting that we didn’t notice before and it just looks magnificent on our landing wall (there’s a photo at the end of the blog post, keep reading).
We are thrilled!
Neil and Suzie really know their stuff and looking closely at their website they proudly (and rightly so) profess that they can frame anything and we believe them. If you have some medals, an old heirloom, a tapestry, a signed sports shirt, pop memorabilia, your children’s art work, certificates, flags or in fact, err, anything, and you want it framed then these guys are the ones to contact.
Neil and Suzie also provide an online service and can post orders up and down the country. They support local artists and they regularly attend art groups. You can also find them at local art and craft markets – there are details on their website for exact dates. Look them up and go a have a chat with them!
Shear Art Picture Framing have a website, are on Facebook , Twitter and their workshop telephone number is 023 9278 0297.
Here is our painting back at home!
Just before we come to the gallery of images, we’d like to say thank you to Neil and Suzie for the wonderful job and to state this review is our own opinion, and that we have not been paid to write this review.
