Horndean Parish Council Play Parks Consultation

Thursday 12th February 2015 by Steve Mayne

Horndean Parish Council has commissioned ‘Groundwork South’ to capture the views and opinions of local residents for the four playgrounds located in Horndean area.

These play parks are:

  • Deep Dell (Hazleton Way)
  • Horndean Recreation Ground (Five Heads Road)
  • Downs Park (First Avenue, north Horndean)
  • Jubilee Field Play Area (Catherington Lane).

There are also free activities planned for the half-term, details in the poster below.

If you are unable to attend the activities and still want to have your say, a downloadable and printable PDF is available to complete and return to Horndean Parish Council.

P.S. Just don’t mention the ‘skate park’ … ;)

haha i thought that was a private message to vicky lol, it was a joke but i did send an email about the parks in the horndean area considering half of the equipment didnt work last summer and instead of replacing the equipment they took it away after months of not being able to use it.

Cool, okay Jodie :) Well done. Fingers crossed some cash can be found to upgrade/fix the equipment. If you know which ward you are in, the HPC Councillors are very responsive and can take up your query too?

I come under EHDC – HPC just think its insane the amount of money that is being put into the new developments in horndean and new parks / recreational areas for those new areas without upgrading areas for existing residence. I will send the downloadable form off anyway :-)

What’s really needed is play Rangers & the equipment updated. Speaking as a well qualified Playworker & a national Childrens day play champion. There needs to be a lot more thought into natural play sites as well as infrastructure within both rural & urban developments

Our favourite play area is the one at the top of Queen Elizabeth Country Park. It’s got space for ball games, an obstacle course and woods for den-building. More of that kind of thing – along with the regular swings and slides etc – in Horndean would be great. Oh and seating, lots more seating for the grown-ups!

Cheers Tim – one of our children came home with it in their book bag otherwise we wouldn’t have known either. Arrrgghhhh :)

As our kids are below school age, without social media we wouldn’t hear about these things!

Why do you say don’t mention the skate park ,Horndean would have had one years ago ,but HCA pulled out when the HPC was just about to put in for one there. other sites have been looked at but no joy.

Lynsey, we aren’t the organisers of this event, there are no age restrictions that we are aware of and the survey covers all ages – I’d say go for it?

Lynsey – having been to the first one, do go if only to register your thoughts and have a chat with the Groundwork Solent Team and register your preferences for any future play park improvements. Here is out new post from today after attending the first one: https://www.mayne.org/2015/02/16/bird-box-painting-hazleton-way-play-park/
