We have been growing vegetables in our garden for about 6 years. Mostly, this little hobby is successful and actually quite satisfying.
We had some raised beds constructed, 3 initially, but grown to 5 in later years. Last year we added pebble walkways as grass cutting between the beds was becoming increasingly difficult. As our garden is on a slope, the raised beds work well and due to their position, and are quite the sun trap.
Some of the veg that we have planted over the years is very successful and some not so. We have learnt what grows well and what will be most beneficial to us.
The beds have been empty over the winter, I have deposited a bit of our chicken manure over them (during the winter months) and dug them over. They are all ready now for planting when the weather warms up.
As you can see from the beds I already have a whole bed of onions (white, red and shallots) growing. These were kindly given to us by my mother who is a keen allotment gardener.
I am hoping to grow courgettes, sweetcorn, beans and a few sunflowers (not technically veg, just very pretty!).
