Last year we wrote about Horndean’s Pink Post Office closure, and we can now confirm that Horndean’s Pink Post Office closed on Thursday 7th May 2015. A new Post Office counter service has opened in the new Spar and Chemist located on the site of the former Gales Brewery, just round the corner.
My first savings account was opened at this former branch, and I remember vividly my little Post Office Savings book which became the lucky recipient of my birthday money each year. The yearly interest gained via Post Office Savings was rather dire, and there came a time when I was around 10 years of age that I closed the account and trusted my money to the TSB instead.
We understand that Jo and Chris who ran the Post Office will opening a tea, cake and gift shop this Summer. Although I am not a ‘tea and cake’ person myself, my female friends have told me this will be a very welcome addition to Horndean, as the current local ‘coffee and cake’ venues aren’t always up to scratch. The opening of this new venue should up the game of the competitors; I can see it now, “Tea Wars VI – The Return of The Post Office”.
Amanda and I would like to wish Jo and Chris all the best for their new venture.
Do you have any fond memories of Horndean’s Post Office that you would like to share?
