Demolition of Waterlooville Bungalows for 27 Retirement Flats (& 6 Parking Spaces)

Tuesday 16th June 2015 by Steve Mayne

Demolition is well and truly in full swing on the bungalows next to the Maurepas roundabout.

Maurepas Way Retirement Flats

Retirement flats are a great money spinner for developers, as older people downsize, they have plenty of spare money to splash out on a retirement flat.

The video below was taken earlier today:

You can find more about this development on our blog post from last month: From Bungalows to 27 Retirement Flats (with just 6 parking spaces) and do check the Comments section for local opinion.

It’s such a shame to see these houses like this! So wrong. They’re already making a right mess all over the pavement and I have to walk that way to and from work. God knows what it will be like when they’re doing the buildings!

Its all about the money the comment about it all says it all.
“The elderly have lots of money to splash out”
That was their exact words, what a bunch of
    Disrespectful f###ing a###holes.
they dont give a toss about the elderly all they care about is the elderly peoples money. That really disgusts me how can the arrogant b##tards be that low and say that the elderly have loads of money to splash out.

Well what an obscure way of getting rid of us olds, build a retirement complex right next to a major roundabout and road. (I’m thinking of car exhaust fumes and being run over getting the daily loaf). Does anyone on the council have any sense!

There is a good subway with a gentle ramp to get to the Precinct, I myself don’t intend on retiring to Waterlooville … though retirement is a few years off as yet …

  24. Katrina Tipper says

    Wednesday 17th June 2015 at 18:39

Obviously not but like has been said it’s all about the money. They don’t care how many parking spaces there are or who buys them they just want the money and in such a stupid place too but hey who am I to say ……….. !!

How dare you all assume that the owners made a fortune. My Auntie & Uncle lived in that bungalow for 43 years and it was a family home for all of us. They wanted to downsize as they couldn’t manage the house any longer. Can you imagine how hard it was to try and sell a home like that on a main road and on top of a roundabout!! They unfortunately had no choice but to sell to these people, so stop thinking that they made a fortune out of it 😡

Someone has made good money out of it because the plot cost a lot !!!

  31. About Waterlooville says

    Thursday 18th June 2015 at 10:40

Hi Sue I wrote that, perhaps it was too brief. Pensioners that own their own house that need to downsize to something smaller, say from a £350,000 house, have plenty of money to throw at a retirement flat. This increases demand, and the developers lap it up. This is why building / selling retirement flats are so profitable for developers. A vicious cycle …
