Imagine if someone you didn’t know parked their car on your driveway? Imagine if this happened on a daily basis? Imagine if lorries parked on your property as well? I was asked by a long term reader to look into where this is happening today in Waterlooville.
Beaconsfield Road near to the new Churchill Retirement Homes development is a Private Road. A Private Road is just that, not owned by the council and is private property. The road is a communal area for use of residents and visitors only.
Residents have taken additional measures to try and dissuade non-residents and builders from using their private parking area.
So lets take a look at the road signs to confirm if the signs are clear to non-residents.
The Beaconsfield Road sign says ‘Private Road’, seems simple enough but doesn’t say the road isn’t for non-residents.
This is more like it, a sign that says “PRIVATE ROAD, Residents and visitors only”. The sign is quite high up so perhaps drivers miss it? What is needed is a sign written on the road. Nobody could miss a sign on the road!
Ah ha! Three signs written on the road itself!
Drivers can’t miss these signs, they read: “RESIDENT PARKING ONLY”, “NO TURNING”, “PRIVATE ROAD”.
You’d think that despite all of these road signs, non-residents and non-visitors would respect this is a private road. and not park here?
Guess what! Nope! Builders from over the road and non-residents park here despite it being private property.
Whist taking these photographs, I approached and spoke with a resident of Victory Court regarding the parking. The resident told me that her friends and family were unable to visit her at certain times of the day due to builders and non-residents parking on the private road. It is not much of a retirement if you can’t see your friends and family?
This isn’t my crusade, there are very capable people who are trying to protect their private communal parking spaces, I thought you might want to know about one of the parking battles taking place in Waterlooville.
