Waterlooville Remembers Lollipop Man Ray Elsmore

Monday 7th December 2015 by Steve Mayne

Today marks the first day back at school following the third anniversary of the death of local Lollipop School Crossing Patrol Officer, Ray Elsmore.

Ray was killed by a driver whilst he carried out his crossing patrol duties on Tempest Avenue on 5th December 2012.

Residents have marked the anniversary of Ray’s passing with flowers left by his crossing.

Tributes were made by members of the Make Tempest Avenue Safer campaign,

Will always be remembered with his sunny smile and wave when we went by in the car – TS

Our thoughts are of Ray and all the family circle on this day and of course all those affected by such an unnecessary tragedy. RIP Ray the Lollypop Crossing Patrol Citizen – PC

Thinking of you today Ray, 3 years on, never forgotten 💜 xxxx – MF

I think of Ray every single time I go past the crossing but especially today. It was a pleasure to have known him xx – AN

I saw the flowers over the weekend.
    Very poignant.
The Police were out with a hand held speed gun the weekend before, too.

Does anyone know what happened to the person who killed him? I heard she was texting while driving? There’s never been anything on the news to say if she ever got any punishment for running Mr Elsmore down?

She was prosecuted and found not guilty, she was dazzled by the sun apparently and hasn’t driven a car since that day. Such a sad situation I don’t think anyone would get over that.

Karen – to answer your question, there were two prosecutions but in both the jury failed to reach a verdict. Due to this, the the CPS dropped the case.
