The children were at at school and we hadn’t got our lunch sorted, so we decided to give Cowplain Fish Bar a go. Located in the parade of shops along Hazleton Way in Cowplain, this Fish & Chip Shop has featured on our blog a couple of times already. Originally,it opened in early 2014 and then closed in August 2014. A few months later a new tenant was found, and the Cowplain Fish Bar quietly re-opened their doors.
So on with the review. There is plenty of free parking in the allocated lay-by. In the event all of the spaces being in use, it is easy to park either on Hazleton Way or a nearby side street.
The inside of Cowplain Fish Bar was surprisingly spacious and appeared spotless; quite possibly one of the cleanest Fish & Chip shops that I have ever visited. The staff were friendly and polite, took my order, and then cooked the fish specifically for me. A few other people trickled in after me but the Chip Shop didn’t get very busy while I was waiting for my order, though I did arrive dead on at noon when they first opened.
I ordered two lots of cod and chips, 1 medium and 1 large and each had a small portion of chips. The cod was delicious, perfectly cooked and very ‘meaty’. Personally I prefer my fish to have more to be more ‘traditional’ with those little crispy bits on the edges. This by no means is a negative aspect, the fish was very nice. The portions of chips were very generous and tasted good. Plus it was all piping hot.
