Waterlooville’s Blinkers / The Butler’s Pantry Closed & For Sale

Thursday 28th April 2016 by Steve Mayne

Walking through Waterlooville earlier this week I noticed that Blinkers Cafe / The Butler’s Pantry had closed. On further inspection I noticed that the building was for sale.

The shop, first floor flat, and garage is a snip at £325,000 for the freehold. The annual rates are £16,000 per annum.

Those rates are appalling. How can anyone make any profit?

Yes, that’s lots of cups of coffee to sell to cover the rates!

The rates work out at £43.95 per day on a seven day a week basis, excluding Christmas. If a coffee is £2.00, 34p is VAT and costs of ingredients e.g. coffee, milk, coffee machine, sugar, cups etc only around 50p that leaves £1.12, so that’s 39 coffee’s to pay the rates, before any other costs like paying the staff!!

The current owner has said that the hairdressers round in Wellington way is going to buy it. Doing hairdressing at the front and dog grooming at the back of the premises. That’ll be interesting!!

Whatever you don’t get the two mistaken. You’d come out with your nails clipped and your anal glands squeezed.
