During the half-term we decided to pop along to Ember Inn’s Woodpecker to enjoy a bottle of fizz and grab a bite to eat.
The Woodpecker was refurbished back in May 2015 and we promised to re-review the pub. I’ve been along to the pub a few times prior to this, and wanted to get a good feel for it before writing another blog post.
We started with a rather nice bottle of Prosecco, very dry and it hit the spot. The wine cost £13.49.
For an appetiser we shared 1kg of Crispy Hickory wings in a Chipotle and Honey glaze … these were super tasty. Nom nom nom! The starter cost £9.99.
I then had the Southern Fried Chicken Burger at £8.79. This is 2 chicken breast fillets in a spicy coating with Monterey Jack cheese and spicy beer-battered jalapeño peppers. The burger was absolutely yum with the right amount of heat, the ‘slaw probably the best I’ve had for a very long time and the chips were marvellous.
Health(ier) option for my wife: She had had the Grilled Chicken and Bacon Salad, which was £8.29. She enjoyed the meal and thought the chicken and bacon was generous. The salad and dressing was acceptable for the type of dish.
We sat in the bar area, the meal was unhurried, the service was good from the staff and we were well looked after. The pub was clean, the tables weren’t sticky, the atmosphere was relaxed with a good selection of music playing in the background.
The total cost of the lunch meal was £40.56, neither of us needed to eat anything for the rest of the day. Delicious!
