The Denmead Overlord Military Spectacular takesplace in May every year, if you’ve never been it’s a huge event with military vehicles and reeneactors from World War I through to the present day. In addition there are demonstrations/access to military hardware of all sizes, from a pistol up to the live firing of a field gun.
I visited with my wife and youngest on the Sunday. My eldest two boys camped for three nights over the Bank Holiday weekend at the Denmead Overlord with Waterlooville’s Training Ship (TS) Active Marine Training Corps. TS Active MTC is an independent Naval Cadet unit with Marine Cadet detachment which meets in Waterlooville and has boys and girls between 8 and 18 years of age. At the time of the photographs my two boys were trainee-cadets and therefore were not in official uniform.
TS Active MTC’s cadets provided car park marshalling during the Overlord event. Here is TS Active MTC’s camp at the Denmead Overlord.
The Overlord Show is set up into different sections, the main sections are the display ring that held live events, a reeneactors section, a section for the static display of the military vehicles, a section for traders selling military memorabilia and a section selling food and drink which also include a beer tent.
Many of reeneactors were keen for us to get hands on with their military hardware. My youngest son enjoyed trying a MG-42 for size.
Here I am in one of the reeneactor’s tents wearing a German army issue cap catching up on the latest news from the wireless. This reeneactor also had a Luger pistol, as well as the other weapons you see here.
There are plenty of sites that show photographs of military equipment so I am going to limit this post to just this one, the photograph below is a general purpose German military passenger car.
Entry into Overlord was Adults £10 and Children £5, we found the pricing good value for money, you’d need a couple of days to see and do everything. My eldest two boys had a fantastic time camping with TS Active MTC and are no-longer trainees, they are full Naval Cadets.
