Waterlooville’s new McDonald’s opens tomorrow Wednesday 23rd November at 10.30am. The new McDonald’s is located at the old BAE site on the Hambledon Road opposite the the WKB car dealerships near to the Waterlooville Sainsbury’s.
We’ve had questions in to ask asking why a new McDonald’s is being built in Waterlooville after Waterlooville’s original McDonald’s closed in July 2014. The original McDonald’s was located in Waterlooville precinct. The precinct is an expensive place to run a business, doesn’t have free parking, and with so many closed shops isn’t a draw for affluent customers.
The McDonald’s is on what is Waterlooville’s newest retail park, this new retail park has been named ‘Waterloo Park’. The other retail parks in Waterlooville are ‘Dukes Walk’ by Waitrose/Wilkinsons and the ‘Wellington Retail Park’ by Argos/Matalan.
A Lidl will also be built at Waterloo Park, it remains to be seen whether it will be financially viable for the German retailer to keep the Cowplain branch of Lidl open.
Will Waterloo Park add to the further decline of Waterlooville’s main precinct?
