Waterlooville’s Chapplins Estate Agent Closed

Monday 13th March 2017 by Steve Mayne

Waterlooville’s Chapplins Estate Agent, located between Wellington Way and Asda has closed. The agent has closed due to lease expiry.

Has Waterlooville passed ‘Peak Estate Agents’? Back in February 2016 there were eighteen estate agents, we’ve not counted them since but we estimate there are around sixteen or so?

Hooray one less estate agent. What on earth do they do all day; there are no houses to buy or rent, so we need to build more !!!

Some people have been saying ‘if charity shops and estate agents can’t survive then what chance have normal traders got?’ Personally I feel that people don’t want that many charity shops and property searches are being done more and more online so both of those types of sites will start dwindling in numbers this year I think. Hopefully this will give the town a chance for new traders to move in and refresh the town for the better. There are lots of new businesses starting all the time and let’s hope we can get some eclectic energy back into our high street!

There’s plenty of empty shops for new business if they wanted to open in Waterlooville, I think this is more likely to discourage them as it becomes even more of a ghost town.

Yep, there are plenty of empty shops as the rent is too high, or the offered lease will be short. For example The Baytree Bookshop has been empty for yonks, though currently under offer. Let’s not get started about Wellington Way … ;)

There’s irony in there somewhere “the lease expired”

My motto for Waterlooville Town centre has always been “every type of bank, and nowhere to spend your money”. Shame 😥

Yay that’s one less hope the test follow suit and get some proper shops. Just no more charity shops and cafes as well that’s all there is and asda is just a rubbish con.

I think the plan is to turn this lower section of shops into flats. Candy and Cards will be closing soon, it would just need relocation of Subway to free the ground floor.
