The Waterlooville branch of Peter Collins Opticians is currently closed due to a dispute with the landlord regarding the renewal of the lease.
A statement from the opticians is as follows:
Unfortunately the practice is currently closed. Please telephone our Hayling Island Practise on 023 9246 7887 or our Portsmouth Practise on 023 9261 0710 to book an appointment of for further details visit www.petercollinsopticians.co.uk. We apologise for any inconvenience cause this is due to a dispute with our landlord regarding the renewal of the property lease. We hope to have the situation resolved as quickly as possible. Kindest Regards Peter Collins Opticians.
We hope that the dispute can be resolved and that the opticians does not go the same way as our favourite shoe shop Goodacres which closed in earlier this year due to a similar dispute.

Wonder if that’s why goodacres closed?
Wonder if landlord is trying to put rent up.
Landlords in waterlooville need a good kicking , it’s killing the town off
Trouble is it seems most of the landlords are out of towners and have no concept of what is actually happening here â¹ï¸
A lot of the retail units are owned by corporations and only care about making money.
About Waterlooville surely doesn’t make sense if they are empty units
Their portfolio is so large increasing rent across all of their properties means an overall increase in income.
Oh no! Really hope the dispute can be resolved or they find other premises soon :-(

It’s a disgusting shame what these Landlords are doing to the ‘Ville.
Landlords are doing it everywhere
Looks like landlord would rather have empty shops.
Are the landlords that dense they donât seem to realise that increasing the rent means an empty shop and then NO rent payment? Robert Dyas closed due to an increase in rent (so lâm lead to believe?). Itâs ALWAYS the customer who loses out. Landlords take note!
Afraid to say due to the size of their portfolio, many corporations have properties worth billions, increasing rent across the board may mean some empty premises for a period of time but a net increase in income.
Also can probably show some losses when it comes to reducing tax bills/ write offs etc. I m not an accountant but there must be some loopholes they are abusing
Tracy Pushman looks like you’ll be finding a new optician
Certainly hope not
Not another one waterlooville is dead
I think landlords want to force shops out because there’s more money in converting to flats and retail is being killed off by large supermarkets and online shopping.
Another charity shop on the way then!!!
An so another shops bites the dust . Bye bye Waterlooville shopping Centre . More flats houses I expect so more traffic chaos !! Hey ho
Pat Cross is that your mates shop x
Call me a cynic, but is the landlord’s intention that the ‘town centre’ gets to such a dreadful state that planners will not be able to resist lucrative development plans for housing?
If they go then I will just go to another one of their branches. Therefore Waterlooville will lose my custom. It is so sad … as said above, the greedy landlords are killing Waterlooville off.
Edwige, this is why we are not moving into the town centre, I’m happy at the other end.
Quiet but secure.
I undetstand
This was a lovely opticians, staff were so friendly, they called me the day before they closed to let me know id have to collect from another store , they sounded gutted about it but by the sounds of it had no choice
I think the landlords don’t want the shops re leased because they can say the footfall in the precinct is below expected which then allows them to say the site would be better used for housing…need I day more.

Could be another charity shop lets face that’s all waterlooville seems to be
We went in the other day to make a check up appointment and they told us they were closing because of the rental cost being £2000+ a month such a shame :-(
Brilliant optician landlords are deliberately killing waterlooville ð

All this âhousingâ they want need places to shop!
Maybe if the council owned the shops the town wouldn’t be in this state as they might keep the rent affordable? Such a shame, I can see why people are moving away â¹
They probably didn’t see that coming ð
I hope not another empty shop.
Landlords in general are just out to make money and ruin town centres âGREEDâ
The landlord’s expect them to sign up for longer than they want,it happened in another shop.ð¬
Shops in the boulevard all pay £20,000 plus a year rent way out of proportion to the footfall!
The flower shop near the post office is closing on the 28th. Oct.
The landlords want to clear the shops and develop as housing like Wellington way. The council doesn’t help by the really high council tax so I doubt if they had the shops they would rent them for less. Having said that with the high number of empty/charity shops they should compulsory purchase them for the good of the town
Wynn, the council do not set the rates, the UK govenrment does. The council collects them on behalf of the Gov, and I think most of the shops rates decreased at the recent revaluation
This landlord is driving everyone our of town so all we will be left with are coffee shops and charity shops. Greedy. ð

Wtaf?? ðð
Adam Perkins doesn’t your auntie work here? Xx
Wont be any shops left in waterlooville
does anyone know who the landlords are ?
Can we not name and shame these people / companies ?
I have been using Peter Collins for the last 25 years and would not like to change to another Opticians, or go out of Waterlooville area.
Disgusting they are killing off Waterlooville, take a leaf out of Eastleigh, a vibrant shopping centre
