Review: “James Alderson Presents …” at The Spring Arts & Heritage Centre, Havant

Thursday 9th November 2017 by Steve Mayne

On Monday 30th October 2017, along with a few pals, I went to The Spring to see the first performance of “James Alderson Presents … a night of brand new material”. Guest comedians at this comedy event were Jonathan Elston, Jon Pearson, Andy Stedman, Tom Glover, Wayne the Weird headlined by Zoe Lyons.

I had purchased tickets to see James Alderson’s Comedy All Stars at Barton Hall in Horndean on several prior occasions but unfortunately either family or work had upset my plans; therefore this was the first time I’d seen James hosting a comedy night.

The host made it clear at the start of the gig that this was not an ‘Open Mic’ night and that the guests are seasoned circuit comedians trying out new routines prior their next tour or TV appearance.

All of the guest acts were spot on apart from one comedian who got off to a bit of a wobbly start, this act still managed to win us over and he received a loud ovation at the end of his set. This is to be expected when fresh material is being performed in front of a live audience for the first time.

James was a gracious and self-depreciating host; his banter with the audience was hilarious and he was not unkind to anyone. My ticket cost me just £8 which was excellent value for money. To be honest I’d have been happy to pay my 8 quid just to watch James having a giggle with the audience.

To be clear, I paid for my own ticket and have NOT receive any remuneration for this review. Oh and I sat at the back of the theatre to avoid becoming cannon fodder!!! Me, chicken? Absolutely!!!

James is hosting further “James Alderson Presents …” at The Spring in 2018, for event dates follow @ComedyJames on Twitter:

Pleased to announce that “James Alderson Presents…” will be @the_spring Havant throughout 2018. Stay tuned to hear what acts are coming! pic.twitter.com/k2GMTuJYGu
