Warning: £100 Parking Charge Notices for August/September now being issued for Wellington Retail Park

Sunday 5th November 2017 by Steve Mayne

Spread the love

Lots of you have been in touch this week to tell us that Parking Charge Notices for £100 are being issued for the months of August and September for Wellington Retail Park. Wellingon Retail Park installed Automatic Number plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras earlier in the year. The maximum stay at this car park is 3 hours with no return within 1 hour.

One shopper that got ‘caught’ by the 3 hour limit told us that they will no longer shop in Waterlooville. Another shopper said they got a the Parking Charge Notice due to not being able to exit the car park due to the gridlock.

Handling the Parking Charge Notice is outside the scope of this article but I would signpost readers to this forum on Moneysaving Expert for advice.

If you have been caught out recently and received a Parking Charge Notice please add a comment below with your advice.

Does that mean if you just pop in to Pets at home to drop off dog to groomers and then leave within the hour you get charged?

      Maximum stay is 3 hours

I know maximum stay is 3 hours but post says no return within the hour..which must mean you have to stay there for an hour before returning to car. So popping to get something from Argos and leaving within 20 minutes would mean a fine?!

No, it means that once you’ve left in your car, you can’t go back into the car park in your car for the next hour.

Sarah-Jane England it means that you can stay in the car park for up to three hours, and when you leave the car park you cannot drive back in and park within an hour!

Thank you Rosamund Knight, that makes sense when you explained it for me. Appreciate it :)

If the road in and out was better there wouldnt be a problem! I went to Sainsburys yesterday morning and had no trouble finding a parking space. Its the waiting at the traffic lights and sitting on the roundabout by sainsburys that takes time. It would never happen but would 1 road in and 1 road out work?

That roundabout is an accident waiting to happen especially for those turning left at the filling station and need the outside lane to turn right at the lights

I am sure it looked great on a computer at HBC when being designed! ;-)

I wonder if there is a minimum stay required for the “no return” part to be triggered? E.g. if you were to park, leave within the 3 hours, but return within an hour just to drive through the car park to reach the other shops (e.g. Screwfix)?

No problem going to Screwfix as Aysgarth Road is before the cameras. Same goes for Jollyes/Halfords/Dreams parking.

I mean if you go through the retail park from the roundabout entrance (much quicker than driving up Hambledon Road in the evenings)

Now that is a sensible question (unlike the majority on here… can you not leave for an hour… WHAT…!!) if you entered by the roundabout and went straight to Screwfix that would probably be fine, but if you got stuck in the car park traffic for say ten minutes, what happens then…?

        Over to you Steve…

On Saturday morning I was blocked in to my parking space due to the car park being gridlocked at every angle. Was blocked out on to the main roundabout and up past Sainsbury’s so no matter whether you were attempting to get in or out you could not move.

I had my brother In a wheel chair with me and I struggled to push him round to my car to get him into the car due to the amount of cars that were all stuck there. All the car parking spaces were blocked as well as the road.

This car park is getting worse and worse by the week. And now with Xmas on our doorstep it’s going to be even worse.

They need to sort something out in this car park and change the entry and exit. And we need 2 exits like the entrances.

It then took me over an hour to get out of the car park. It’s horrendous.

if they made the pavement narrower by Sainsburys Garage on the corner, then people could join the flow on the left-hand side easier. Its just when one car wants to turn right into the Hambledon Rd, and there,s a queue already, and blocks the way, thatswhen the problems of leaving this car park occur.

I said exactly the same when I was trying to get out of the petrol station on Friday. The gridlock is not helped by cars wanting Denmead so we all have to wait!

Its a charge notice. You do not by LAW have to pay it. Its the same in havant too. These are private run carparks ( NOT COUNCIL
If you get one tell them straight away to shove it and say your refusing to pay. They will send you a few letters but AGAIN!!!!! You are not OBLIGED to pay it..
However if you park in a council car park and get done then you better pay it..

    • Charley McLeod says

I was told that Dean so ignored it. Ended up in court and had to pay hundreds. Apparnetly quite a few private ones have joined the official scheme (can’t remember the name of it) so they do count. I ended up hundreds down and the amount of stress was unbearable, so in future I would just pay up if it ever happened again.

I would send them a letter with an invoice for the time that it took for me to write said letter charging them the amount of the fine. Also saying if they choose to respond to you then you will reply and you will charge for your time again at a rate of £500.00. You doubt you will hear another word because their PCN or invoice is as payable as yours, surely?

I’ve always managed to avoid parking tickets but if I parked on a private car park and got a fine I would definitely try this.
