Plans have finally been submitted by the owner of Wellington Way for the partial demolition of the existing shopping parade and redevelopment of the site. The owner wants to build a nine storey block of flats with 264 rentable rooms/apartments. It is proposed that there will be a gym, and cafe and a cinema/TV room on site as well as a garden for residents. If this scheme goes ahead, it will dominate the Waterlooville skyline.
The owner is proposing 18 car parking spaces and 279 cycle spaces for the 264 rooms/apartments; the owner suggests that the remainder of the vehicle needs are made up of car sharing schemes and permits to park in the nearby car park.
It is interesting to note that the shops from Iceland up to the former Store 21, and then from the former Store 21 to NatWest are currently untouched by this development; are these shops to remain, will these the shops be redeveloped, or are these shops earmarked for some other future use?
