£100 Waterlooville Wickes/Topps Tiles Overstay Parking Charges

Monday 19th August 2019 by Steve Mayne 14 Comments

The Rockville Retail Park location of Wickes and Topps Tiles in Waterlooville has installed an Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera.

The ANPR camera is used to track the duration and the times at which drivers park their car at the Rockville Retail Park.

The Maximum stay is now 90 minutes, no return within 1 hour. The terms and conditions also state that drivers using the car park must not leave the site. In addition parking is also not allowed outside of store opening hours.

A parking charge notice (PCN) of £100 will be applied to drivers using the car park and breaking these and/or any of the other rules on the signage.

The site is now managed by The Premier Park Limited, the sign also states that the shops located at this site cannot intervene in any dispute.

Why would this stop you from shopping there?

Principal, if a company wants to employ parking bandits they don’t deserve anybody’s custom..

You know the shops had no choice. It was the owners of the land that installed it.

They wouldn’t do that without consulting the retailers first.

It seems spending money in stores isn’t enough nowadays , it’s a shame as this will cost trade
Can’t browse and take your time whilst shopping
I had a £160 fine from Tesco for allegedly overstaying by 7 mins , crasswell street
    Appealed but wouldn’t budge
Private parking companies have no shame !

Just another nail in the coffin of Waterlooville town centre! We should be being encouraged to shop locally, not be bullied and intimidated by PCN’s! I’ll not be shopping in Waterlooville any more.

Just ignore the letter, never pay them they are contracting with the car not a person. I always drive my wifes car and she gets lots of them with me the driver, never once been taken to court. If she did get taken to court it would cost them loads as they would lose trying to prove who was driving. She doesn’t have to tell them, as it is a civil matter.

Beware, I have recently received a parking notice fine stating I had parked there for 20 hours. I only live 5 minutes away, I popped in to Wickes on the Monday evening, left after about 20 minutes and they provided a photo of me driving in in the dark. I then went to Wickes the following day for about 20 minutes and they provided the photo of me leaving in the daylight. I had receipts from Wickes for both visits. When i challenged them I asked where the photos were in between. Fine subsequently cancelled. How would anyone be able to challenge them if they hadn’t kept receipts of purchase. Will go to B & Q in future. Can’t trust these cameras and hate these companies. Retailers will lose out.

During Covid lockdown the Waterlooville Wickes click and collect took over 2 hours, but the sign outside the shop still said click and collect in 1 hour. I waited the full 2 hours for a £30 order, only to be fined £100 (£60 if paid immediately) for overstaying the 90 minute parking. Provided Wickes with the proof of time of order and time of collection and, a few weeks later, they respond that it still must be paid. I am obviously very angry but completely powerless except to let others know and to decide that is the last time I will ever pay money to Wickes or Travis Perkins (who own them) for any transaction. Travis Perkins Trade card destroyed.

Do not get caught out by this offensive business profiteering out of their own delays due to the Covid crisis. What an appalling way to treat bona fide customers.
