Alex Sailing, Playa Blanca, Lanzarote

Tuesday 25th February 2020 by Steve Mayne 4 Comments

We arranged a sailing day with ‘Alex Sailing‘, Alex is based in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote. His sailing boat operates from the commercial/ferry port and offering sailing trips that can be customised to your need.

Instead of using our hire car we took a bus from our villa to the port. As we were a little early grabbed a welcome coffee at La Esquina. Probably the best cup of coffee ever.

We were greeted warming by Alex and his team, boarded his boat and exiting the harbour. The sails soon went up and all of us had a turn steering Alex’s boat.

Alex moored just off one of the Papagayo Beaches, we donned our swimming gear and snorkels and had a swim around the boat. A life-ring on a rope was attached to the boat helped the less confident of our crew.

Whilst anchored just off the beach, Líneas Romero Lanzarote Express gave us a visit – we waved, the passengers on the boat waved back, and the captain of the boat sounded his horn, I photographed this image on the ferry’s return journey.

The time passed quickly, and it was time to return to the harbour, managed to grab this photo of the car ferry that travels to/from Fuerteventura.

Then sadly it was time to say goodbye …

After a hard day’s sailing, it was time to grab a few ice cold beers from a bar located on the promenade – it was happy hour and beer was €2 a pint. Many beers were consumed!

We were in Lanzarote for three weeks, I’d been looking out for Alex’s boat each day, finally my wish was granted and on the last day of our holiday I managed catch Alex’s boat leaving the harbour. This photograph was taken from near the shop Fund Grube. Fuerteventura is in the background.

Would 100% recommend Alex Sailing to anyone visiting Playa Blanca, we were well looked after and we hope to return to Alex and his boat on our next visit!
